Homework will restart, across the school from September 2021
In September 2019 we created a new way of completing homework. We understand that there are a wide variety of views on homework and we hope that this allows the homework schedule to be both manageable and accessible for all.
Children are given a homework book in which they can complete the tasks.
Children receive a homework grid at the beginning of each term. This has an activity for each week. Children can complete the tasks in any order. They will return all completed tasks for a 'showcase' morning at the end of each term (the teacher will set the date for this). Alongside this they continue to receive spellings, reading books and times tables. Year 6 have a separate 'sats' work book at certain points within the year.

Changes to the way Bishopstone completes homework
Homework was reviewed with parents at Christmas (Dec 2019) from the more traditional style of setting maths and english weekly with occasional topic to the new grid system. The survey, after a terms trial, was an overwhelming 'yes' to continue with this new style. Children also voted and they all confirmed that the new way of working was much better (and could we add a little more maths!).
Staff feel that it is supporting the child's learning at home and that the children have much stronger motivation to complete. As teachers we are making the homework more individualised as the terms go by, asking the children for ideas on what they would like included (Yr5/6), setting individual aspects of Maths and English for every child (Yr3/4).
The children also are providing far more than what is asked for, showing us that they are developing their personal skills to research above and beyond for their own personal gain. Any questions around the termly homework then please ask the class teacher.
